About Chair Yoga Workshop

A chair is much more than a place to sit.

In this Continuing Education workshop, discover how a simple chair can become a powerful tool for building strength, mobility, balance, and body awareness. Rather than replacing traditional Yoga, Chair Yoga offers intelligent support that allows every practitioner to explore movement safely while preserving proper alignment, breath, and mindful awareness.

Together we will explore creative ways to adapt the major categories of Yogāsanas using the chair—as support, as a prop, and even as a platform for deeper understanding. You'll learn practical modifications and progressions that can benefit beginners, seniors, students recovering from injury, and experienced practitioners looking to expand their teaching repertoire.

This year's workshop also introduces a practical Travel Yoga Sequence—a simple series of movements designed for airplanes, trains, long car rides, or office desks to help relieve stiffness, improve circulation, and keep the body comfortable during extended periods of sitting.

Throughout the weekend, we will explore:

  • Principles of Chair Yoga and intelligent use of props, such as table and wall.

  • Standing, seated, and floor-based adaptations

  • Progressive modifications for strength, mobility, and balance

  • Breathwork and mindful movement

  • Creative sequencing for different populations and abilities

  • A practical Chair Yoga sequence for long-distance travel

  • Teaching principles for making Yoga more inclusive and accessible

Props you will need

  • Your yoga mat

  • 1 strap

  • 2 yoga blocks

Props such as chair / table will also be available in studio for public use.
